The book Twitter:
Social Communication in the Twitter Age is written by Dhiraj Murthy. Throughout the book, Murthy helps the reader
understand the basics of Twitter, what it is, and how it works. Although Murthy gives both positive and
negative consequences of social communication through Twitter, Murthy centers
his argument around “Twitter has the potential to increase our awareness of
others and to augment our spheres of knowledge, tapping us into a global
network of individuals who are passionately giving us instant updates on topics
and areas in which they are knowledgeable or participating in real-time” (p.
X). Murthy incorporates the ideas of the
Network Society, the Knowledge Economy and social activism to support his
central argument of the book.
